About Bram Cragg

Bram Cragg is a traditional Lakeland farm rebuilt in 1688 when sheep and wool were so valuable, the byre and bank barn were added in around 1840 as dairy produce was needed in the growing cities. Our cottage was built beside the farmhouse in 1896 as the industrial era brought workers into the area primarily for work with the forestry, railways and reservoir.

Gillian, Duncan & family have been lucky to live here at Bram Cragg for over 20 years and have had family ties since 1965 when Gillians' grandparents bought it to retire to. In 1993 we rented it through them, hired out two static caravans & cottage and looked after the family sheep & cows. We became owners in 2008 & renovated the farm house with 2012 bringing the arrival of two holiday lodges in place of our popular static caravans and our stunning barn conversion.

The 50 acres surrounding the properties is grazed by other farmers' stock from nearby, supporting the remaining hill farms to stay profitable, while we oversee the management and upkeep of this land. Duncan has been a full-time builder until 2012, when he chose to join the running of the holiday units and care of our very beautiful Bram Cragg.
